Day 14 - Kamakura

For our last day in Japan, we decided to head to Kamakura for the day.  We’ve been a couple of times before, but never in the autumn.

Engaku-ji

We got off the train at Kita-kamakura, just outside the centre of the city and then had a walk around Engakuji

Kenchō-ji

We then walked to a temple we’ve not been to before, Kencho-ji

At the back of the temple grounds there was a walking path up to Hansobo Shrine and the Shojoken Observatory deck with views over Kamakura towards the sea (and fuji when it’s clear).  There were lots of tengu statues by the shrine.

Back down at the main temple we went into a few of the buildings and gardens.

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu

We then continued to walk towards the centre of Kamakura, going via Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine

We walked along the main shopping street to the main station stopping for a number of snacks along the way, before then taking the train back to Tokyo.

Akihabara

One final evening of enjoying the view from our hotel out over akihabara.  We went for another wander around and had vegetable tempura bowls for dinner, before packing ready for the early flight home the next day.
