Asakusa
In all of our visits to Asakusa, we’ve never managed to try any of the street food that is available along the approach to Senso-ji – either it’s been way too busy to even get near the shops, let alone join the queues, or we’ve been there at night when everything is closed (but is our preferred time to visit as it’s really peaceful and the temple is nicely illuminated) This trip we decided to take advantage of the fact there were less tourists and began our day by visiting just as places were opening, making our way around sampling the various treats.
The highlight of the snacks was a stop at Kagetsudō Kaminarimon. Here we tried freshly baked melon-pan for the first time (it’s not actually melon flavoured, it’s just called that because the texture of the crispy sugar crust on the bread looks a bit like a melon!).
Akihabara
In the afternoon we headed over to Akihabara for some shopping.
Dinner was Tendon – a bowl of rice topped with lightly battered vegetable tempura drizzled in a sweet and savory sauce, with a side of miso soup – always looks terrible in photos, but tastes delicious!
