After 2.5 years of being completely closed to tourists, Japan finally opened their borders and we took a trip there shortly after, revisiting places before the crowds returned.

Day 1 – Arrival in Tokyo
We arrived at Haneda airport in Tokyo and did some sleepy exploring around the city
Day 2 – Tokyo
Sampling lots of tasty food in Asakusa and shopping in Akihabara
Day 3 – Tokyo
Another day in Tokyo, visiting some view points and one of the largest winter illumination displays in the country
Day 4 – Tokyo to Hakone
We left Tokyo and headed to a very rainy Hakone
Day 5 – Hakone
A lovely sunny day exploring some of the sights in Hakone
Day 6 – Kyoto
Time for some autumn colours in Kyoto

A day trip to Nara to visit some new spots and say hello to the deer

A quiet day in Hiroshima visiting the castle and a pretty garden
Day 11 – Iwakuni
A day trip to Iwakuni, just west of Hiroshima, before travelling to Kanazawa in the evening

A rainy day exploring Kanazawa
Day 13 – Shirakawago and Takayama
Travelling from Kanazawa to Takayama, we stopped at Shirakawago for a few hours
