Day 6 - Egilsstaðir to Jökulsárlón

Eastfjords

Today started with a pretty drive through the Eastfjords. It was lovely weather so we were able to enjoy the scenery and stop off at various viewpoints along the way

First was Saxa viewpoint

Breidalsvik Viewpoint

Berufjordur

Teigarhorn Rest Area

Hvalnes Nature Reserve

First actual stop of the day was a walk along the black beach at Hvalnes Nature Reserve. There were lots of Eider ducklings, and nice views of Tófuhorn

Skútafoss

Next we went on a walk to Skutafoss, a small waterfall with a cave next to it that you could go in to get a nice view of the waterfall

Stokksnes

We’d left the blue skies behind by the time we got to the Stokksnes peninsula, but at least we could still see the Vestrahorn mountains and they weren’t hidden in clouds which frequently happens!

We went for a walk around the black sand dunes and also across to the other side of the peninsula where there were seals and hundreds of eider ducks riding along the waves in a small inlet.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

After dinner we headed out to my favourite place from our first trip to Iceland, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. The sun was almost setting and the light kept changing, so I took far too many pictures!

Diamond Beach

From the lagoon we walked over to the beach where the icebergs eventually wash out to sea.
