Múlagljúfur Canyon
Today was lovely clear skies, which was great as we had a hike I had been particularly looking forward to planned – walking up along the edge of Múlagljúfur canyon, to Hangandifoss. one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland. The trail is a lot less known than other sites and the track to the carpark isn’t signposted on Route 1, so there were only a few other people there. The views were really impressive, not sure the photos do it justice!
Kviarjokull
As we were driving to our next walk, there was a viewpoint looking over another outlet glacier, Kviarjokull
Hofskirkja
Another quick stop along the drive was Hofskirkja, which was the last turf church to be built in Iceland, constructed in 1884
Svartifoss
After lunch it was time for another walk, this time to Svartifoss in Skaftafel National Park, a waterfall famous for it’s basalt rock formations.
Fjadrargliufur Canyon
Once back from our walk to Svartifoss, it was time to leave the Vatnajokull glacier area and continue along the south coast to our next hotel. We stopped here at Fjadrargliufur Canyon along the way
